Who We Are
The Military to Construction Careers (M2CC) Committee is a standing committee of the Arizona Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AZAGC).
A Committee, Not an Entity
The M2CC Committee operates under the authority of the AZAGC Board and exists to advise, translate, and advocate — never to execute, direct, or own outcomes.
Mission: To strengthen Arizona's heavy civil construction industry by expanding awareness of construction as a viable post-military career path while serving as disciplined translators between military service and industry expectations — helping AZAGC members and affiliates engage veteran talent with reduced risk and helping veterans enter the industry with realistic preparation and long-term growth potential.
Purpose: To strengthen informed engagement between servicemembers and veterans at any stage of transition and Arizona's heavy civil construction industry by introducing construction as a viable post-military career while clarifying technical expectations — helping AZAGC members and affiliates engage veteran talent with reduced risk and helping veterans enter the industry with realistic preparation and long-term growth potential.
The M2CC Committee envisions a heavy civil construction workforce strengthened by realistic preparation, disciplined translation, and earned opportunity — where servicemembers and veterans at any stage of transition build durable careers grounded in technical competence and AZAGC members and affiliates engage veteran talent with clarity, confidence, and preserved standards.
Committee Tenets
These twelve tenets define how the M2CC Committee thinks, operates, and remains aligned with AZAGC governance.
We Are Guided by Shared Service and Purpose
M2CC is guided by a commitment to serve both the veteran community and Arizona’s heavy civil construction industry. Our work is rooted in respect for both communities and in the belief that durable alignment is built through honesty, accountability, and shared responsibility.
Purpose, Team, and Belonging Matter
Successful transition is not only about employment. It is about finding a team, a mission, and a sense of belonging that supports long-term performance and retention. Alignment at the cultural level benefits both the individual and the employer.
Shared Operating DNA
Military service and heavy civil construction share operational characteristics — high-risk environments, compressed timelines, coordinated execution, and accountability to the team. Recognizing these parallels helps frame transition realistically without overstating equivalency of roles or expertise.
Veterans Bring Intangible Strengths
Veterans often demonstrate accountability, resilience, adaptability, teamwork, and mission focus — qualities that enhance performance when paired with industry-specific technical competence. These attributes strengthen outcomes but do not replace formal learning, apprenticeship, or field experience.
The Industry Has Gaps Veterans Can Fill
The heavy civil construction industry faces workforce challenges common to complex industries, including engagement, leadership development, retention, and training consistency. Strengths developed in military service can contribute positively in these areas when supported by technical competence and aligned expectations.
Education and Advocacy Flow Both Directions
Effective transition requires mutual understanding. M2CC educates servicemembers and veterans on the technical demands, learning curves, and accountability standards of the industry while helping AZAGC members and affiliates interpret military experience accurately — without inflating readiness or lowering expectations.
Advocacy Is Grounded in Honesty
M2CC advocates through candid dialogue about expectations, responsibility, learning curves, and performance. Respect is demonstrated through truth — not inflated promises, softened standards, or misplaced encouragement.
Dignity Without Romanticism
Military service is honored but not romanticized. Veterans are capable professionals — neither charity cases nor automatically qualified for authority or leadership roles within a new industry.
Opportunity Is Earned Through Contribution
Access and opportunity are supported, not guaranteed. Advancement, trust, and leadership are earned through demonstrated competence, performance, and accountability.
Long-Term Fit Matters More Than Initial Entry
Success is measured by long-term engagement, retention, and meaningful contribution — not by short-term placement metrics. Sustainable alignment benefits both the individual and the employer.
Partnership, Not Replacement
M2CC complements the efforts of AZAGC members and affiliates and does not replace employer judgment, hiring authority, or training responsibility. While the committee may screen, mentor, and refer candidates, all employment decisions remain solely with the employer.
We Protect Trust Through Discipline
M2CC safeguards trust by remaining disciplined in scope, precise in language, and consistent in expectations when engaging veterans and industry partners. This includes resisting the temptation to inflate readiness, imply rank equivalency, or overstate alignment.
What We Are Not
To preserve credibility and protect standards, the M2CC Committee does not:
When requests fall outside these boundaries, they are declined or redirected.
